Chair of the Economic Development Authority for Albemarle County

I served as Chair of the Economic Development Authority for Albemarle County for 12 years. I first volunteered for what was then the Industrial Development Authority in the late 1990s. Over a ten year stretch from 2000 through 2010 the Economic Development Authority issued over $500 million in tax free bonds in the name of Albemarle County for such issuers as Martha Jefferson Hospital, Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge, UVa, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, and many others. I initiated the name change of the Authority from the Industrial Development Authority to the Economic Development Authority to better reflect the Authority's mission.  I worked with the Authority to pass an ordinance change so that the Authority, for the benefit of the county, might receive a fee of 1/10th of 1% of the face amount of issues to be invested by the Economic Development Office. I was on the interview committee for the first Director for the Office of Economic Development for Albemarle County.
